Elkins Lake's story begins in the Texas of the 1920s. Here was the private retreat of Judge James A Elkins, Sr., the personal estate of a man whose legal, financial and political interests made him a legend in his own time. Not only did the guest book at the Judge's "Manor House" read like a "Who's Who of Texas", but it is said that downtown Houston skyscrapers changed hands in front of the Judge's fireplace. For over a half century, invitations to social events hosted by The Judge were "musts" to attend.
The Elkins Lake Country Club offers some of the best in championship golf, as well as tennis, pool, lake and other sporting facilities. The Elkins Lake Golf course consists of three courses (Hills, Lakes and Ravines) for 27 holes of golf over rolling terrain and challenging layouts. There are numerous activities for property owners, including a Men's Golf Association, Women's Golf Association and golf lessons available to groups and individuals.
Elkins Lake also offers an olympic size swimming pool, located near the end of the main lake. In addition to the 102 acre main lake with 3 miles of shoreline, there are two smaller lakes which provide even more waterfront home sites and are stocked for some of the finest bass fishing spots in the area. There is also a 4-court tennis area with spectator bleachers, and a picnic area with sports fields and lighted basketball courts.
